The VPN is not working right now so our daughter Katie is blogging for us from Germany!! Thank you Kate!!
The wait to meet Mia was killing us- it was 3 more hours due to the fog and slow travels from the orphanage.
Sarah saw her from our 18th story window so we knew "the call" would be coming soon! 10 seconds later the phone rang and it was time to come down to the lobby!
We had so many pictures of her we recognized her right away- she is so adorable and so tiny! She seemed happy, excited and shy. She had a smile on her face and she immediately liked the backpack we gave her with the build a bear! She said- Mommy, Daddy, Jie Jie and Ge ge! Her voice is so cute and it is so nice to put that voice with her face!
We all went straight up to the room and chatted. I actually prefer the civil affairs office for gotcha day. It felt awkward and small in a hotel room. The poor dear child had everyone staring at her and there were no distractions, no other families to look at, no crying babies to feel sorry for- just our little girl and lots of bigger people looking at her...
She came with the clothes on her back, a bracelet from another family and some pictures. I asked about her photo album... and they said what photo album? I am so bummed- she NEVER got it. This dear child has heard from other visiting families that she had a family and yet she never received anything from us. How confusing for her and how very sad. We sent 2 gifts and all she got was the cake and nothing else...
After the director and the nannies left we ate lunch. She was so hungry and she ate everything in sight!
Then we shopped for gifts for the orphanage visit and snacks for the two girls. Once our guide left us Mia started to go down hill... she is shy and talked very little already... now she was left with us who did not speak her language. We returned to the room and she quietly cried. She tried to act brave and hide it. I sat next to her and offered comfort but she was not ready to accept it.
We decided we needed to get out of the room so we went for dinner. She refused to eat... she was not happy. She ended up taking a few sips of sprite but didn't touch anything else.
Once back in the room she allowed me to help her get on her PJ's and settle her in bed with a chinese cartoon!
Praying that the night goes well!
Praying for her as she makes the biggest adjustment of her life...

aw, sweet girl! Mia is beautiful! I'm sorry that she had a hard time, but it's totally understandable. Just happy that sweet Sarah is there to be her Buddy! I'm praying that Mia will feel better after a good nights sleep.
Jean, that "fog" you've been talking about?? I heard on the News that it is SMOG! That it is really bad all over China and that they were suggesting that people wear masks. If any of you have asthma, etc., maybe ask your Guide to get some for you? Praying for this new day with your new Daughter! Happy Memories made with her until you go get your Next Newbie! Love, Jo
Congratulations momma!!! She's BEAUTIFUL!!!!! Continued prayers for all of you today as the adjustment begins. Hugs to you!!
Beautiful! What joy! Praying for the adjustments for you...
Congrats! Your daughter is stunning! Absolutely beautiful. So very sorry for her not getting any of the gifts you sent her. That happen to us, as we got a care package and we got nothing in return. Looking forward to more photos and more Gotcha Days!!
I am so glad she is finally with you. Fog/smog. I know there is a lot of talk that it is very high on china right now. Hopefully she will feel a little bit better after a night of sleep. Congrats
Bless her heart! Praying she rests well tonight, and is more open to your comfort and love tomorrow. Congrats!
Oh, sweet girl. She is so beautiful, and so tiny. I can't even imagine the emotions that go through our children's minds and hearts. Praying for you all!
Praying for sweet Mia!
Praying for Mia!
Congratulations to the whole family! Love seeing the photos of Sarah and Mia together. I'm disappointed about the photo album and other items...I just don't understand why it is so difficult to honor your wishes and maybe make the transition for the child easier.
Looking forward to meeting you Mia!
Nancy
Knowing all the blessings of home and family that are awaiting your Mia is making me excited to be a witness to her upcoming transformation. I'm also curious to see if meeting her soon-to-be sisters will help ease her fears a bit.
Praying...

What a darling girl! But so sad that she didn't receive any of the gifts your sent...and that she's feeling so afraid right now. I will be praying!
Hoping that Mia's adjustments will go easy for you. We all know how hard it must be for these children who only know one thing and now they are with people that look, smell and talk differently. Wishing you the best.
Oh, sweet girl...so many changes! I'll be praying. She's absolutely beautiful.
So exciting!! I'm glad that sweet Mia is finally with you and can adjust to being a member of your wonderful family! Keeping you in my prayers......

Jean! She is so beautiful! Congratulations!! My heart breaks for her as she adjusts. But many happy days are coming her way!
Prayers and blessings coming your way!!
Can't wait to see the next post.
Like I said in my email sweet friend, she is approaching this in a healthly way. It would be more conderning to me at her age to run into your arms accepting you for the first moment. I hope I will need to remind myself of this soon as well!
I trust Day 2 will be better. She will learn to relax with you and trust that she is going to be okay. I think it is so good that Sarah and Mark are there for her to see that too.
Love you lots!
Does Sarah speak any Chinese?
Congrats! Pray Mia will be more happy when she gets to know you and others more. Yes she looks tiny when she was with Sarah in one of pictures.
Mia is just beautiful! Praying God fills her with peace and understanding! Just wondering if "Jane" is your guide? When we were in Hefei back in '09 she was our guide. Wising you all the best.
PRAYING PRAYING PRAYING!!!!!!
For you for her, for adjustments, for everything!!!!!!!
Prayers for Mia tonight. What a blessing she is with a Mama very experienced with all these changes to guide her through it. And a fun big sister right there! Blessings, Jennifer
Bless her heart! She is adorable. I cannot imagine how hard it would be to be in her shoes. Precious girl. It will be comforting when her sisters join her in a few days. Praying for you all!
I'm praying that each minute that goes by, she learns to trust you more and feel the love you have for her... The love the Father has lavished on her. Praying for peace for you all...
Blessings,
Rebecca

How so beautiful... praying that the Lord will give her a peace inside through this life-changing time for her, and guide your journey smoothly. :)
Just found your blog via Facebook. I'm a Lifeline China mommy adopting a 3 year old girl with Spina Bifida in GZ.
Thank you for sharing your journey. Mia is so beautiful--a perfect fit for your precious family. I know it must be heartbreaking to see her grieve all she has known, but I don't think the tears will last long. It's apparent that she has just been given one awesome family.
I'll be praying for her during this transition and for you as you show her what a blessing it is to finally have a mother.
Much Love,
Kathie
